September 11 attacks
On September 11, 2001, 19 people associated with the Islamic group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and did suicide attacks in several targets in the United States. Two planes went for the World Trade Center twin towers in New York City, the third plane went for the Pentagon outside of America's capital Washington D.C. and the fourth airplane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. This event resulted a lot of deaths and destruction and was the starting point for combating terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush. During this event, 3000 people were killed and thousands of people were injured.
Following this event, George W. Bush started a war against terrorism and therefore picked a country in the Middle East, Iraq because of the fact that there were a lot of oil. The 9/11 resulted many things to happen in the Middle East and triggered fundamental problems like religious issues.
